The community is located at Thirumalpadi, a small remote village in Thiruvanamalai District. Agriculture is the only source of income and the people are mostly illiterate and economically poor.
In 1995, St. Antony’s Convent was constructed with the support of Rev. Fr. Kuriakose Karikatt, the then parish priest of Thirumalpadi and Mother Clement. This effort was encouraged by Mother Mary Cyrilla, the then Superior General. The newly built convent was blessed by Most. Rev. Dr. A. M. Chinnappa, sdb, the then Bishop of Vellore. In the same year, St. Antony’s Dispensary was constructed by the parish priest and was entrusted to the sisters to attend to the medical needs of the poor. In the same year St. Antony’s Matriculation School was also started in the church premises by the sisters. It has been decided to hand over St. Antony’s Convent and its institutions to the diocese. This convent will be closed on 22 May 2013.
The sisters devote themselves in educating the children of the locality with great zeal and dedication. The sisters are also involved in providing medical care to the poor, especially those in remote villages. The sisters are also engaged in various pastoral and catechetical works of the parish.
