The convent is situated in a small village called Bagayam in the District of Vellore. The people comprise of the poor who do not have access to proper education and are daily wage earners. However, there are also recent settlers who are employed in the Railways as well as in the neighbouring hospitals.

In 1994, Rt. Rev. Dr. A M Chinnappa, sdb, the then Bishop

of Vellore, invited the sisters to cater to the educational and

medical needs of the people at Bagayam. The invitation of the bishop was accepted by Mother Mary Cyrilla, the then Superior General. Consequently, in 1995 a new convent named as Assisi Illam was constructed, which was blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. A. M. Chinnappa, sdb, Later, Infant Jesus dispensary was also built to attend to the medical needs of the people. This community will be closed on 22 May 2013 to provide more space for the activities of the Church.

The sisters have committed themselves in educating the children of the village through a primary and a nursery school from 1994.

They also visit the sick and give them appropriate medical attention. Besides teaching in the school, the sisters also involve in the pastoral activities of the parish.
