JOSEPH’S PROVINCIALATE

Context

St. Joseph’s Provincialate is located at Acharapakkam, a panchayat town in the District of Kancheepuram and is about 96 kms away from Chennai. The provincialate is also close to the Hill Shrine of Mazhai Malai Madha, Acharapakkam. The people at this place are poor and are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood.

History 

The Chennai Province is dedicated to St. Joseph and named as

St. Joseph’s Province. Sr. P. Susai Mary was appointed as the first provincial of St. Joseph’s Province, who worked together with her provincial team. In 2007, the First Chapter of the province was held and Sr. P. Susai Mary and the councillors were elected to form the new provincial team. The Provincialate of St. Joseph’s Province was then situated at Portiuncula, Avadi till 2010. In the same year, the Second Chapter of the province was held and once again Sr. P. Susai Mary was elected as the Provincial. She took efforts to built the Provincialate, which was shifted during the same year to Acharapakkam, which was blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Neethinathan, the Bishop of Chingleput and opened by Mother Rita Catherine Michael, the Superior General.

Mission

The provincial team renders remarkable service to the local church and the people through various pastoral activities. The team under the leadership of the provincial are also involved in organising various seminars, retreats and ongoing formation for the sisters of the province. Besides the administration of the province, the sisters of the community are also involved in various pastoral works of the

Hill Shrine of Mazhai Malai Madha. Sisters also coordinate with

the Claretian priests to take care of children of the persons affected with HIV-AIDS.
